Monarch Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk has partnered with International Game Technology to bring a new sports betting app to the market in Colorado, BetMonarch.

A future retail sportsbook is also reportedly part of the agreement.

BetMonarch joins a highly competitive sports betting market. So far this year, three sportsbooks have exited Colorado: Betway, SuperBook, and Tipico. BetMonarch is the first new online Colorado sportsbook in 2024.

Agreement includes a new sports betting app in Nevada

There are now 21 operators offering Colorado online sports betting. That represents one of the largest selections of mobile sports betting apps in the country. More than 30 states have legalized sports betting, with Colorado launching its market in May 2020.

International Game Technology (IGT) also said it has launched a sportsbook in Nevada in partnership with Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno called Atlantis NV SportsMonarch Casino Corporate Director of Race and Sports Steve Mikkelson said on Aug. 5 that it is part of a broader deal between IGT and Monarch.

“We’re excited to introduce Atlantis and Monarch Black Hawk patrons to elevated sports betting entertainment via our new IGT PlaySports-powered retail and mobile sportsbooks. IGT PlaySports’ technology stack is widely known as one of the most versatile B2B sports betting technology stacks in the US, and we believe we now have the ideal sports betting offering to drive incremental player engagement and value at both of our award-winning properties.”

IGT hosts betting platforms in a dozen states

Earlier this year, Steve Zlobin, director of games at Monarch, told PlayColorado that the future of gaming and sports betting in Colorado is still ripe for competition.

“I don’t believe we’ve really gotten close to what the Colorado gaming market is capable of.”

In four years of legal sports betting, more than $18 billion has been wagered on sports, generating over $800 million in revenue. According to the Colorado Department of Revenue, the state has received $76 million in taxes from sports betting as of June.

IGT’s sports betting technology fuels apps in 12 states. The IGT PlaySports product was named Sportsbook Platform Provider of the Year at the 2024 EGR North America Awards.

IGT Senior Vice President of Sports Betting Joe Bertolone recently touted the new agreement.

“IGT PlaySports is delighted to partner with Monarch in the modernization of their sports betting offerings in Nevada and Colorado.”
