Colorado Comeback Cash initiative

Colorado is doing its part to help power the comeback.

Following the lead of other states, Colorado is giving any resident who gets at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination a chance to win $1 million.

The plan was announced by Gov. Jared Polis on Tuesday.

Colorado Comeback Cash to begin June 4

The new initiative is called the Colorado Comeback Cash. The website says that as part of the public health initiative, the Colorado Lottery will conduct a random weekly drawing on behalf of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). That drawing will identify one vaccinated Colorado resident each week to win a $1 million cash prize.

All Colorado residents ages 18 and older who have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine, as determined by eligibility rules, are automatically entered into the drawing.

The first drawing is set for June 4. If you’re interested in that first drawing, you will have to receive at least one dose by June 1.

The other drawings for the $1 million prize:

  • Second drawing is June 11
  • Third drawing is June 18
  • Fourth drawing is June 25
  • Fifth drawing is July 7

According to the website, the final day to qualify for the last drawing is June 30.

As the rules stipulate, the drawing is based on the vaccine records contained in the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) at 11:59:59 MT the Tuesday before the first drawing.

The site adds that it can take a few days for information to get entered into CIIS, so the state recommends you get vaccinated as far in advance as possible.

If you’ve already been vaccinated, you’re automatically entered in the drawings.

As of Tuesday afternoon in Colorado, 2,941,234 people have received at least one dose, and 2,484,305 people are fully immunized.

Return to normal?

As we slowly but surely return to “normal,” Colorado is doing its part to help convince people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

What’s great about this setup, is it also includes the people who have already been vaccinated.

If this new initiative helps the state get that sense of normalcy back that we’ve craved for over a year, this is a major success.

When it comes to sports, the more people who get vaccinated, the more fans can return to the venues. There have been limited fans for the Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rockies and Denver Nuggets. How much fun would it be to see and hear a packed Ball Arena to help push the Avs to their third Stanley Cup?

The chance of winning $1 million is a great incentive to help power the comeback.
