FanDuel is expanding its footprint in the West.
The company recently announced plans to launch its mobile sportsbook platform in Colorado on May 1, just as sports betting becomes legal in the state.
FanDuel’s move into a new market in the Centennial State comes following successes in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Iowa, Indiana and Michigan, as the announcement story notes. The company views this latest step as a natural progression as the state prepares to become the next in line to legalize sports betting.
Earlier this year, FanDuel reached an agreement with Twin Rivers Group to run the online component at Golden Gates Casino in Black Hawk.
Ready to go on May 1
With just days before the launch of legalized sports betting in Colorado, the options continue to grow for future sports bettors in the state.
“Colorado is an opportunity to further expand our nationwide legal sports betting footprint – westward,” Kevin Hennessey, director of publicity for FanDuel, told PlayColorado.
Since FanDuel got onboard with Golden Gates so early in the process, FanDuel will become one of the few sportsbooks launching in the emerging Colorado market on May 1. That ensures FanDuel is up and running before the start of the NFL and college football seasons — whether they start on time or not, given the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put sports on hiatus and shuttered casinos in the state.
“Colorado is home to a passionate sports fan base and we look forward to bringing America’s No. 1 sportsbook to Colorado,” Hennessey said.
More details are expected in the coming weeks as FanDuel rolls out more promotions and announcements in preparation to open for business in Colorado.
DraftKings also expands to Colorado
DraftKings will also be up and running in Colorado come the May 1 launch. And the similarities don’t end there: DraftKings will also partner with Twin Rivers to run both the online and retail sportsbook operations at the Golden Mardi Gras in Black Hawk. That will be the seventh location nationwide for DraftKings.
Don’t forget the SuperBook
Not to be forgotten, but the SuperBook announced recently that it would expand into Colorado, as well, with The Lodge Casino. The SuperBook will bring its popular SuperContest to the Centennial State. It’s the first expansion outside of Nevada for the SuperBook.
