Online poker site Global Poker is currently offering deals and promotions for its new and existing customers throughout the month of April.
What is Global Poker?
PlayColorado spoke with Global Poker general manager David Lyons this past week about the site.
“Global poker provides a social poker experience similar to many other social gaming experiences out there,” Lyons said. “We have an added twist, a unique twist, which is that players can actually win prizes.”
Global Poker uses a “sweepstakes” model, not a “real money” model, making it legal to operate online not only in Colorado, but throughout the entire country.
How does it work?
Global Poker sells Gold Coins, which are virtual chips that players accumulate and use for play. When you make a deposit you are given Gold Coins. There are also Sweeps Coins which are equivalent to the Gold Coins. Sweeps Coins cannot be purchased and are always available free of charge.
The Sweeps Coins then can be used to play in various tournaments and ring games. Sweeps Coins won can be redeemed for real money and other prizes, such as gift cards.

Here is how to verify your account.
- After logging in, go to the menu in the top left-hand corner. You should see a red “X” next to the account tab. If the red “X” is present, that means you are ready to verify.
- Upon clicking on “Verify My Account” at the bottom right, you then will need a photo ID, either a driver’s license or passport.
- Click “Start” and choose your photo ID type.

Global Poker Home Series
Global Poker normally has four major tournaments a year, but an extra tourney was added this spring.
“A lot of players are going to be looking for something more akin to the live [poker] experience,” Lyons said. “So we came up with this idea of having one big tournament.”
The Home Series started March 30 and runs through April 26. The event has more than 2,000,000 in Sweeps Coins guarantees and a 500,000 Sweeps Coins guaranteed final Scrimmage scheduled for April 26.
“What we’re really trying to do is focus around a single tournament every day and really get players involved in satellite (tournaments),” Lyons said.
Other Promotions
The Home Series is not the only promotion Global Poker is running right now either. Here’s a look at some of the others:
New Player Free roll: This is a special free roll for new players offering the chance to get your share of 1,000 Sweeps Coins.
Sunday Scrimmage: The Sunday Scrimmage is Global Poker’s premier weekly No-Limit Hold’em tournament. It offers a 50,000 Sweeps Coins prize pool.
Gold Rush: In Gold Rush, players accumulate points for every hand they win. For example, if you win a hand with a total pot of 100 Gold Coins at blind levels 10/20, you’ll earn five points on the leaderboard.
Bonanza: There are daily and weekly Bonanza tournaments. These tourneys guarantee 8,500 Sweeps Coins every week, with a buy-in of 0.11 Sweeps Coins.
Daily Hundo: Players can win 100 times their buy-in in the Daily Hundo. There are two Daily Hundo tournaments each evening. The first – the Daily One Hundo with a buy-in of one Sweeps Coin – takes place at 7:35 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. Players can win up to 100 Sweeps Coins.
