Business is about to pick up.
Come a week from now, a three-day weekend will come into sight. And one of the ways people may want to spend that time is at a casino or retail sportsbook.
And the Colorado casinos are prepared for one of the biggest weekends of the year.
If you’re planning on heading to Black Hawk, Central City or Cripple Creek, you’ll have plenty of options at your disposal.
If you were curious about COVID-19 protocols, each casino in Colorado will have its own policy in place. So make sure you visit the casino’s website to know what to expect before you make any plans. Namely if there’s a mask policy in place and who needs to wear one. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment does offer guidance for businesses and communities on COVID protocols they should consider. Interestingly, a guideline for casinos isn’t included on the website.
Given where we were a year ago at this time, it’s nice a change of pace. And while it’s not fully back to normal, at least people can get out and have some fun.
Colorado retail sportsbooks could have first big weekend
What adds to the intrigue is that retail sportsbooks could have their first big weekend since the launch of legal sports betting in Colorado. That weekend is the kickoff of college football across the U.S. So, while online sports betting remains the driver for this market, the fact casinos and sportsbooks are open for business on Labor Day Weekend could start to sway the numbers a skosh.
Right now, there are 17 retail sportsbooks in Colorado.
As Kevin Dawn, the Barstool Sportsbook director at the Ameristar Casino, said:
“Labor day is always a good weekend at the casino. The weather is generally good and it is the unofficial end of summer, so a long weekend getaway is always nice. College football kicking off on the Thursday before the NFL is a great jumpstart, and with the holiday weekend, we should see great action Thursday through Monday.”
No betting limits, new casino games could draw more visitors
Given the impact no betting limits and new games are already having in the state, that’s another reason people may head to the three gambling towns. In the past, when casinos had betting limits, people may have headed to Las Vegas. Now, they can just jump in their car and save the hassle of heading to the airport.
As Eric Rose, vice president of operations at Century Casinos in Colorado, said:
“We expect a busy Labor Day weekend, and the table games drop continues to increase significantly since no limits began May 1.”
Century Casino Central City giveaway
One of the ways that Century Casino in Central City is trying to lure folks over Labor Weekend to the casino is by giving away a 2021 Jeep Renegade at 10 p.m. MT on Labor Day.
Visitors to the casino have been able to enter into the drawing since July 5.
- Fridays between 5-10 p.m.
