When you look at life, the rule of three is everywhere.
In Latin it’s known as “omne trium perfectum.” “Everything that comes in threes is perfect.”
Past. Present. Future.
Traffic lights.
Branding messages like “Just do it.”
The list you just read.
It literally is everywhere.
Powerball adds third drawing
Now, the rule of three includes the Powerball that is set to add a third drawing on Mondays. That is in addition to the current Wednesday and Saturday.
The first Powerball drawing on a Monday is scheduled for Aug. 23.
This third day will obviously increase the number of drawings that is expected to produce bigger jackpots. The Colorado Lottery points out the Monday drawing will also increase the number of cash prizes and jackpots awarded on an annual basis.
The change also increases the potential revenue for the Colorado Lottery that then goes back to the state. A portion of the sales goes to preserve and protect Colorado’s parks, trails and open spaces. The addition of the third day only increases the potential for even more going back to the state.
The state has already seen a massive impact from recent lottery jackpots.
As Tom Seaver, director of the Colorado Lottery, told PlayColorado:
“We think it will be positive, but only time will tell how much additional revenue the third drawing will add.”
No change to Powerball odds
If you were curious, as officials from across the country have pointed out, the additional drawing on Mondays will not change the Powerball odds or set cash prizes. People who play will continue to choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26.
Double Play option
The Colorado Lottery also has added the Double Play option.
For an additional $1 per play, the Double Play gives people another chance to match their Powerball numbers with an additional drawing to win a top cash prize of $10 million. The Colorado Lottery adds that the Double Play drawing will be held immediately after every Powerball drawing.
More details will come from the Colorado Lottery as the launch of the third Powerball day gets closer.
Since we’re here, if you were curious about ways to play the lottery online, the lone option is Jackpocket in Colorado.
Third Powerball day impacts current play
Aside from the third drawing, how does this impact playing Powerball?
If you’ve played Powerball, there is the Advance Play option.
As the Colorado Lottery states, “Advance Play allows you to purchase up to 13 weeks of tickets at one time (26 draws for Powerball, Mega Millions, Lucky for Life and Lotto, and 91 draws for Cash 5).”
When you check the Advance Play option on your pay slip, you can play the same numbers for up to 56 drawings. Those same numbers are used for all the drawings you request.
Since the Powerball will add this third day, the Colorado Lottery has to reset the Advance Play clock. As the site notes, once the clock hits zero, the new game features are available for purchase on Aug. 21. The site has a schedule with the number of available Advance Play options with the corresponding date.
The countdown to the third Powerball drawing is on.
As Seaver said:
“We expect players will appreciate the opportunity to play one of their favorite games an additional day every week. Some players will add the third drawing, while others may stick to their routine of playing for Wednesday and Saturday.”
